Hadestown casts Gloria Onitiri

There's just over a month to go until Hadestown makes its return to the London’s West End. We are even more excited by the recent casting announcement featuring our very own Patron Gloria Onitiri.

Gloria became a Patron for Associated Studios after training with our Principal Leontine Hass and regularly visits to run masterclasses and support the students in their productions. Most recently she came to support our 2023 graduates in their production of ‘Into The Woods’ at The Playground Theatre.

Gloria has a wealth of knowledge having worked across the industry since making her West End debut aged just 17. She has worked in theatres across the UK, as well as at The National Theatre and in London’s West End. Alongside her work in theatre Gloria has worked on screen in tv and film. For more of Gloria's credits please visit our Patron’s page.

In the upcoming production of Hadestown Gloria will be playing the role of Persephone, the wife of King Hades opposite the wonderful Zachary James. Persephone is a rebellious woman and resentful of her life in the ‘Underworld’ so she escapes up out of Hadestown for the summer, extending her stay where possible, causing rifts between her and husband Hades. Only by the songs of Orpheus are her and Hades convinced to give their relationship another try. Alongside the relationship between King Hades and Persephone, Hadestown also tells the love story of Orpheus and Eurydice, the younger dreamers.

Hadestown has won 8 Tony Awards on Broadway including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. Hadestown was written and composed by Grammy winning singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, who blended modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz.

Originally directed by Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin (Mission Drift, Hadestown on Broadway), the show is back in London five years after it premiered at the National Theatre in 2018.

Hadestown opens at the Lyric Theatre in London on 10 February 2024.
